Using ChatGPT to Free Up My Time and Slip Into the Matrix
Well, last week OpenAI launched an open research version of their conversational AI, Chat GPT. Chat GPT is simply mind-blowing, and the more I tinker with it the more I get excited...and scared. I'm mostly excited because I believe we are living through a time of incredible technological change that will benefit humanity in the long run. But unfortunately, that amount of rapid change is not comforting for everyone. The big question everyone has once they experience the limitless powers of these early AI models is, what will happen to all the jobs...what will happen to my job? Unfortunately, I don't know. But for now, like most of life, we can't dwell on the uncertainties of the future too much and we must focus on the present (thanks, therapist) and how we might embrace these changes. So, I'm embracing AI with the hopes of advancing my career for my families financial security and using it to handle tasks that will enable me to focus more on my art. Who know’s, maybe it will even free up some of my time.
Like most tools, balance is everything. I’m using Chat GPT to generate blog content and then filling in holes and adding a human touch with personality. For example, the last three blog posts were written mostly using Chat GPT. I simply start with a prompt or question and see what it writes. Then, I tell it to adjust the tone, style etc and add some specifics that I want to address. After we have created a blog post that I’m satisfied with, I then ask it for title options and tags. So far, this has sped up my blog writing immensely. I can basically pump out 1 blog in 20 minutes. As I have become more comfortable using Chat GPT, I came to the realization that it has become my personal assistant. I use it for research, grammar, brainstorming and writing. I feel like the President with a team of speech writers and advisors.
These are just my first early thoughts. Like most new technology, I get obsessed quickly and then get bored fast. This time it feels different. I quickly saw ChatGPT naturally fitting into my daily workflow and life. So far, it’s a huge benefit but I’m still worried. What else is new?
Writing this, I'm reminded of why I fell in love with photography in the first place. It's about capturing moments and emotions, about telling stories, and about connecting with people. Sometimes, it takes an unexpected source, like an AI, to rekindle that realization and inspire us to see our work with fresh eyes.
